Pheobe
Horse painting Grey Mare known as Flea Bite Horse
Pheobe is a beautiful grey mare, this horse painting was challenging to achieve with all those flea bite markings!
I first started to paint Pheobe without her bridle, but having got half way through things were not turning out great. Although I thought I would be able to interpret the structure of her face underneath the bridle, it wasn’t very easy to do. I just was not happy so decided to start again, this time including the bridle.
Flea–bitten gray is a color consisting of a white hair coat with small pigmented speckles or “freckles”. The flea–bitten pattern is seen primarily in heterozygous greys. Most horses who become flea–bitten greys still go through a brief period when they are pure white.
